Hi
Having worked for an outboard repair company here are my thoughts
Honda: v quiet and best for cruising
Suzuki: Best 4 stroke 4 acceleration,
Yam: a mix of Honda and Suzuki
These 3 makes came in the least for problems and are also used a lot by sea farms / sea saftey boats up here and came in with huge hours ie over 5K and were still fine so a very personal choice.
Note: get a good lock as these engines hold the value v well and hence are prone to be borrowed on a permanent basis!
