Hiall, I am going to set a bilge pump system on my 17ft Pilot Dory boat. The outside diameter on the pump flange is 20mm. I bought some braided pipe but its too thick and does not like getting bent at 90 degrees. The new pipe will have to be channelled and take a few turns before exiting on the port side hull.
My question is this, in order to save me sourcing 90 connectors etc is there a recommended 20mm ribbed, flexi piping that can take a bit of bending and routing? One long pipe would be better than two 90 degree elbow joints that will vibrate a bit. One long one I think would be fine but the material needs to be cooperative.
There is some caravan waste pipe on Ebay that might be a goer.
Your thoughts gentlemen and women

Caravan waste pipe is that really cheap stuff they use on washing machines, I would not put it near my boat. It has a habit of splitting between the ribs.

I got lucky and bought some pipe from the hose-man at the boat jumble, it is stiff white hose that will not let you bend through 90° it forces a longer curve. But it seems you need the 90° rather than worried about getting a tight bend accidentally if you see what I mean.

On the washing machine theme, could you use one of those curve adapters they have on the waste pipe, the type you 'clip' the pipe into?

Vetus sell all sorts of fittings for pipes.

as it is an outlet pipe your boat is v unlikely to sink IF it splits, i've used the stuff for years in various home installs without any probs
use it and replace every few years ?

[/ QUOTE ]Your boat wouldn't sink until you develop a leak and start pumping - and then discover that your bilge pump isn't pumping oggin out of the boat. Furthermore as any spilt wouldn't be found until the pipe was used, the first time you find the split might be a bit late to change the pipe!

I wouldn't fit domestic waste pipe to the outlet of a bilge pump on my boat.

High quality and reliability is imperative, here. The time you want this to work is when you are in serious poo and you don't want pipes splitting, spilling your bilge water back into the bilge or, worse still, spewing it over things that ought not to get wet. I would use a continuous length of flexible, reinforced marine hose, of the sort sold in chandlers and not something designed for camping or household applications unless you are very sure that it is fit for the purpose (i.e. appropriate materials and appropriate construction).

While it is true that if it leaks you won't sink due to ingress of water, you could very possibly sink due to lack of egress!
