Who do you consider the best motor yacht builder in the 100 - 150 ft range?

(build quality, reputation, value, reliability, finish, re-sell etc)

Brands that come to mind are Delta, Moonen, Heesen, etc

The question is to generic. Depends what you want and what you going to use it for and the budget you have.

If you want a Med island to island hopper a planning hull would be best, if you want a globe trotter and visit Alaska and Scandinavia in the future then a displacement and or semi displacement is your choice, build of steel of alloy. I think in this size there is no real better builder, especially when a project is fully custom.

I am looking for a boat to primarily island hop around the Caribbean with but want to be able to take it to the Mediterranean also.
I would like to keep it within $20M but I am less concerned with outlay and more concerned with build quality and resell value.

I have heard from friends in the yacht world to avoid aluminum hulls, which is disappointing because I really like some of the Burger builds so I am trying to decide which are the best. That said, the Moonen and Delta Marine yachts are very nice.

Thoughts?

Firstly, welcome to the asylum.
That's a helluva first post, if I've ever seen one...

PYB is obviously correct when he says that the builder choice depends not only on the size, but also on the type of boat.
But considering the names that you mention, I would assume that you are interested in proper vessels, rather than gin palaces.
I'm saying this assuming that by Delta you mean the US-based Delta Marine, rather than the ostentatious Delta Powerboats, of course (whose larger hull is 80 feet, btw).

In this sense, the names you mention definitely come to mind for a reason - though I don't rate Heesen style, but that's me.
Other than those, I would second the suggestions from petem: both SL and Benetti surely are worth including among the best builders, in that size range (I believe that Amels is nowadays focused on even larger size).
This side of the Pond, some other builders I would consider if I had several millions burning a hole in my pocket are Ocea, CDM and Admiral.

Looking forward to reading a "superyacht hunt" thread soon!

Mmm... Fair winds to my compatriots at Columbus, but did you read the criteria mentioned in the OP?

1. Cantieri Delle Marche
2. Delta Marine
3. Feadship (they have a new 40 meter series)
4. Codecasa
5. CRN
6. Baglietto
7. Wim Van der Valk
8. Mulder
9. Ocea
10. Sanlorenzo

I am sure I missed a lot. Some other builders as Heesen, hardly venture sub 50 meters nowadays. Feadship has presented a semi-custom project in that size.
A new player should be Baltic yachts, who purchased the Cantieri di Pisa yard and name in recent days, and have already produced two fully custom motor yachts.
Some of the last few Moonen's have not had very positive reviews to what I was told.

I would also consider the M range from Princess, either the 30M, 35M or 40M

By volume Sunseeker produce a large number in that range but I find their styling a bit too extrovert.

Henry :)

Well, even after posting a pornographic link like this one, you might still discover that someone doesn't like her I guess, here in the asylum.
Me, I wouldn't mind getting her as a Xmas present. :encouragement:
As long as she would come with a huge yearly bank transfer on top, just to run her as she deserves...

Big Rivas are classy and a few steps above hear in the Core dAzur . Like Sunseeker and Princess they started small and over the decades moved up .
It’s just at that size 100/150 and that price imho there would always be a nagging doubt I made the right decision if an anchorage or marina had to be shared with lesser modals ( equally nice btw) still in production.
Where as with SAN Lorenzo or a Bagielleto ( sp ? ) say 130 / 140 you know and everybody else knows they are that bit special as a guy in a 50 is not gonna rock up .
I would expect if new a better after sales type of service too with the former examples

What happened to our buddy who was buying a destroyer, or rig service vessel or something and converting into a yacht/ charity ship? Was he real in the end? Was from New Zealand I think? Also had a 90 knot RIB...
