Not sure Elling qualifies, and the Hardy is maybe pushing it, both great semi displacement cruisers, but not trawler yachts in my book. Nordhavn should be top of the list, quality through and through. And Fleming , right up there. Our DeFever should be on the list, there's quite a few thousand floating about American waters.

Almost all quality trawler yachts are American designed, most built in the Far East. Passage maker magazine would be the best place to look/research.

In my mind, a trawler has just one appearance and this look is summed up by the description given in wikipedia

Recreational trawlers (also called Trawler yacht or cruising Trawler as opposed to a fishing trawler) are also subject to fashion. For example, many USA production recreational trawlers have a style which includes features such as a raised pilothouse or offset deckhouse.

A popular feature is a "Portuguese bridge", which consists of a walkway behind the foredeck, in front and to the sides of, the pilothouse windows, separated from the foredeck by a (generally) waist-high bulwark. The purpose of the bridge is to deflect green water from the foredeck up over the superstructure top rather than slamming against the forward windows of the pilothouse. It gives a semi-sheltered area outside the pilothouse while underway. A secondary benefit is that it provides a "safe area" or handhold when it is necessary to be on the foredeck in inclement weather. And lastly, it provides additional storage space for lines, fire extinguisher, spare anchor, drogue, etc., if the builder has provided access doors and lockers on the inside of the bridge.

Trawlers are most often offered in lengths ranging from 35 to 60 feet (11 to 18 m), or more. Most are built for long term cruising of regional and worldwide destinations. Combined with large fuel tanks, they can cruise far before needing to be refuelled. They can be home for between 2 and 8 persons for many days and can be a permanent home.

You have a DeFever?! I thought ours was the only one in the UK! Or maybe you're based elsewhere.

What model is yours? Ours is the 48.

LJS - there is certainly another DeFever in the UK - that is if you count Jersey. We met the boat and their very nice live aboard owners in St Helier Marina last summer. We think it was about 50 feet but don't know the exact model. I think it probably dates from the 90s.

Yes I'd heard there was another one somewhere in the CIs.. we will look out for it when next over there.

Hi, I appreciate De Feever, it is a respected trawlel in the world, I have another brand of Nordic tug 37. I also appreciate the Fleming range and I'm counting on Fleming's real Trawler though SD. I wrote because someone mentioned that SD could not be Trawler and in the second point mentions that Fleming is the right Trawler (cross dispute)

And the answer to the top 10 Trawler? It is certainly in every thing that makes the boat the best and especially when there is no longer early experience of a large number of different boats, so the answer is comparable to the miss universe race. Especially US magazines are transparent rewievs, who buys ads, their products are highlighted ... and unfortunately Trawler boats are not widely sold or cruised or manufactured in Europe.

Privateer should definitely be on the list. I had a fabulous trip on a Privateer 50 from Southampton to Monaco:

Hi, very nice realy long range trawler yatch +2000nm range, i think this is realy trawler:encouragement:

I'm thinking of one thing when a boat can be called the realy "Trawler" is the distance the vessel can drive with one fuel filling. I think it is + 2000nm, Many other good points listed in Post 42, so it not only looks out the Trawler...

P.S In this great opportunity already you are watching about 40 feet of Trawler boat UK market, wondering why still on sale, the price is really attractive vs the price of the world on the market for the other.

One day when I have time on my hands. Will need bigger tanks though, as this has about 1000 miles range.
