I know a few folks keep their boats in that neck of the woods. What are the cost of berthing/moorings at Brightlingsea? (A quick scan of the website didn't reveal charges).

What's the latest with the marina there? (We've not been down there for a long time)

John

This thread a couple of weeks ago might be helpful

I have to say that we're enjoying it more and more at Brightlingsea and getting into the swing of only being afloat half the time (we're on Morgan Marine's pontoons which dry).

EDIT: Sorry, that's the wrong thread! I'll look some more for the right one...

EDIT AGAIN: Found it! Not obvious at the beginning but it morphs into a Brightlingsea mooring discussion

Not coming out of the closet yet, Neil.....

Just doing some research & number crunching...oh, and poking around the odd boat.

Just to check things out...

Sailing Today which has just dropped in the door says taht the Hrbour Commissioners have taken over the managment of the Waterside Marina which has 50 berths up to 12m. There is a sill at 1m above CD but at MHWS there is 3.8m of water over it. Vessels up to 2.5m draught can lie afloat at all states of the tide. Few berths available it says. Call 01206 302200 which I presume is the Commissioners number.

Best be quick as it is in print!

Sounding promising John, looking forward to your 'coming out' declaration /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Go on, more clues please /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The Harbour Commissioners took over the running of the Marina back in May, and there are several boats already berthed there...HOWEVER...as a word of caution, I have it on reliable information from a mate who keeps his boat in there, expect to find all kinds of junk chucked onto your decks by the drunken 'yoof' of the town! The walkways around the Marina development appear to have become the new 'home of choice' for the towns chav contingent!

FWIW I still reckon that the White pontoons in the South Channel are the best moorings on the river...not crowded and most importantly QUIET!

I was talking to a fisherman when the new marina was being built and he was quite concerned the the pontoons were rising and falling ten feet during a decent SWesterly blow that coincided with a spring tide. Maybe a few gin palaces moored against them will keep them steadier.

He must have been in the pub a bit too long. The swell never makes it that far up the creek. I've seen 4-5ft coming in by the nav marks in the creek (approx opposite the great spit that sticks out from Point Clear) but it washes up on the prom instead of turning right and heading up the creek.
