Berth in Athens mid June 3 nights - suggestions please.

Spot against the quay is no guarantee of safety. Every day I was woken by the sound of my anchor chain rattling in the locker, and couldn't leave the boat until 7pm when the whole show seemed to quiet down. Even so, one day I got back to the boat quite drunk at 3am, only to find a large motorboat that was trying to leave had snagged one of his two gigantic anchors on some poor person's chain. Beautiful island, but the port is unusually disgraceful even by Greek standards. It's character building though.

We went by the flying dolphin from Porto Heli having been warned of the port, what a bloody mess, but as you say nice spot.

Thanks. Is there a particular place you'd recommend?
I'll send you a Google earth picture with where I used to park up to go to Athens..
There is/was a guy Mr Cassandra ex Bobt on these forums ,I think yrs ago he and a greek guy layed some trots in the area.
as said in above posts its unwise to park on the mole because your going to have all sorts of problems if unattended.

This is on Galatas side, can be windy, but no waves except from ferry.
It's not to deep but leave scope to swing. Check ground but mostly mud.
Bumboat across from Galatas, have a word with one of them and he will pick you up from boat...not advisable to say its unattended.....

Zea Marina (my home town) is always fully pre-booked by the regular users, very hard to get a place. The marinas in Faliro Bay (Flisvos, Alimos) should be able to find you a space but it will be a last minute job based on availability. Perhaps the best option is to find a marina or small harbour on the East side of Attika and around Chalkida and Evia Island and hire a car for a few days to get around. However, hiring a car in June is difficult unless you book it now. Unfortunately, the West side of Attiki that you are looking for is very popular with yachting. If you manage to get a place in Zea, I may see you there; best of luck.

Thanks. Zea is in a super location for the port, the metro, shopping, nightlife etc. I stayed close to there in February when I was getting ferries to view 2 different boats and I had a look around the marina. Looks impressive. It did strike me when I was there that I wouldn't want to be based there permanently in view of the traffic and bustle both on land and on the water. You'd certainly want your wits about you all the time on the boat with those ferries buzzing around in every direction.

Yes, it can be too busy nowadays. Born and grew up there, it used to be much more relaxed many years ago when I was a teenager racing in dinghies; I will be there from May onwards. Try the East side of Attica; there are a few small harbours that are not as busy as in the West Attica, but it is more remote and there is a need for a car.
