I'm looking for a berth for my modest power cat in Athens - preferably close to Piraeus - for 3 nights mid June. I emailed Zea Marina and they said they have no availability but check back end of May - I think it's shorthand for we don't want to commit a space for your little tub while we have a possibility of getting something bigger. Can anyone suggest an alternate with decent transport links nearby? Thanks.

Flisvos? Alimos? If your dates include a Friday it might make things harder, as all the charter boats are back to their bases then. Slightly further away is Olympic Marine in Lavrio, which I imagine is somehow connected to Athens.

Ireland are playing Greece in Athens on Friday 16th and that's the reason I want to be there Friday night and Saturday so I appreciate that makes it more difficult. Lavrio is too far but I'm trying all the others I can see on Navily. Worst case scenario I'm thinking I could leave the boat on Kea for a couple of nights and get a ferry and hotel.

IR, cannot really help re Athens marinas, never used any, not ever planning to either :)

I'd go for your favourite/convenient island and getting a ferry to Piraeus. It will be easier and more convenient than going to Lavrion!

Thanks. Zea marina is in a super location for transport and facilities and would be ideal. I'll keep my options open as long as I can but it looks like it will be a ferry from Kea.

If not in a marina, or some place with mooring lines, I'd be hesitant to leave my boat unattended overnight while med moored on anchor on a quay, especially in the summer when it's busy everywhere. I've had my share of bad experiences (tip: never go to Hydra in the summer) with neighbouring boats snagging my anchor while lifting theirs. So unless I can moor alongside (which isn't an option in Kea) I'd prefer to leave my boat on anchor and take the dinghy to land. Either way, I think (without being too sure) that there no longer is a ferry route from Kea to Piraeus, so you'll end up having to go to Lavrio anyway.

Oops. I assumed it would be Piraeus. That requires a rethink. Thanks.

good point by sailoppopotamus!
wont be able to go to Piraeus from Tzia (by don't tell any Greek about Kea, bet circa 10% know it's Tzia :) )
you need an isle further south, but I'd also not leave my boat med moored and go for 2days in the summer down there.
Not only ignorant boaters on charter yachts, but meltemi to deal with as well. Obvs upsetting your anchor, leaving and letting your boat smash on the dock is the worse you can get...
Maybe your second best bet is Lavrion after all. Catch a bus or rent a car for a couple of days.

Alimos and Flisvos replied saying no availability. Olympic Marina in Lavrion confirmed availability at what seems a reasonable price. They don't require a deposit - pay on arrival - and have indicated some flexibility on dates up to 30 June. If the rest of the operation is as effecient as the administration process then it bodes well. I'm going to book that and try Zea again a week or ten days before my planned arrival.
Thanks to all who contributed.

If you can’t find a safe spot you might want to consider anchoring in the southern bay of Chalkida (Evia) and take the train. Very safe bay, good holding and the train is a direct line to Athens.

Alimos is most convenient with tram stop to city centre right outside the gate. bit of a soulless place but will suit your requirements.

true, have a flat opposite, horrid place :)
but is there a chance to get a spot there? I thought there's no visitor berths there...

Don't know about visitors berths. Last stayed there, well actually in the Poseidon Hotel opposite while I sorted out the final purchase of my charter boat from Kiriacoulis was in 2007. Time flies, but location and amenities stay much the same.

Apart from the essentials ie a berth.

I was thinking more of the location and access to the city centre which is the OPs requirements. Already said I did not know about berth availability. Only times I berthed there was with my charter boat and the berth was arranged by Kiriacoulis.

I would drop the hook in the shallow at Poros, get the bumboat ashore and flying dolphin to Athens, I left my boat there for three weeks
to go UK and back.
