Benson Lock wins Engineering Excellence Award

So with such engineering expertise why are they making such a dogs dinner of dredging shoals above and below that same lock?

Oh, do keep up at the back. I posted info about this just a couple of weeks ago:

Benson Lock shoal

Remind me never to go 10 pin bowling with you. I suspect you would never pat me on the back for getting 9 !

Its the job they are being paid to do.

All thats happened at Benson is a new set of gates, i am more impressed with the folks that built the blimmin thing in the first place 100years ago without all the mechanisation of today.

Suppose you think they should get a bonus like the bus drivers?

I'm with Apollo.

Have to say that I agree with Apollo.
I am sure they did a wonderful job, but they do replace gates with some regularity.

The ridge above the lock has been there for some years and never seriously removed. Can it be THAT difficult?!!

C'mon Guys, don't be so negative -

It's not just a matter of banging a few bits of steel together. I spoke to the project manager on site - he's a real (qualified) engineer; there's a helluva lot of design and careful resource sourcing that went into that project - not to mention all the surveys and paperwork that had to be done.

And to the installation team that had to work in bluddy 'orrible weather. I wouldn't care to have to do it.

So the Pot is well deserved - as well as raising the public profile of Our River...

Have to say that I agree with Apollo.

The shoals are there all the time - but the point is that they move / are constantly added to. Given very limited financial resources - what would do?? Perhaps better not to ask...

Just you wait until CART gets its hands on it!
