Hi All
Today after racing the engine would not turn over when the start button was pushed .. After several attempts it eventually engaged the starter motor and started . When back on our mooring we tried again but no go at all. Everything else seems normal. With nothing to loose and more racing tomorrow I stripped the switch and found a bent contact arm inside. Unfortunately as these things do it came apart in a flurry of springs and contacts However I think I have them all ( 1 long spring, 1 shorter spring and a thing that looks like a mini line fuse and 2 rocker arms ) When I reassemble I can get the starter to work by pressing the off button or another attempt got it all to work but starter wouldn't disengage. So 2 questions
1. Does anyone know where all the bits go and 2. Where can I get a new one Quickly.
Its the standard cockpit set up of rev counter beside two switches 1 glow/stop and 2 start /off.
Many Tks Iain

Don't know where you can get the bits though to get yourself out of a bind you can bridge across the starter solonoid to get her started. Done this numerous times with an insulated screwdriver on lots of different boats some with only a few engine hours on the clock!

Yanmar

Once you have sorted out the starter switch you may want to check the connections on IIRC a s starter relay .
I had similar problem turned out to be the relay connections ( not solenoid)

Hope this helps

Marine rip off ... and thumbs up for suppliers

Thanks for the input Nohasdad however the starter motor is very difficult to get to. and also emnick i will keep that in mind if there are any further issues after replacement..

So to cut a long story short. A big thumbs up for Eoin in Marineparts in Dublin for chasing this switch down and for very gently breaking the price to me. Also to the two Roberts and David in Fox's Yachts Ipswich who managed to locate and arrange shipment to me from Beneteau under warranty. And I hear you all shout The Price ???
Well as Eoin said .. are you sitting down? A mere 260euro plus vat 21% confirmed by Fox's, and not the suppliers fault, for a simple on off rocker switch .... NOW THAT'S A RIP OFF ..

I had the stop solenoid on my Yanmar fail. The official Yanmar replacement costs about £400. Once it arrived, I opened the Yanmar box to find a Bosch part with a Bosch part number. I Googled the number and found that is cost £58 as it is a standard diesel engine part. I returned the Yanmar part and had to pay a considerable return charge. I then fitted the Bosch part!

Yanmar start/stop switch

I hope that the new switch cures the problem.
I don't know which engine you have? But on the 3YM30 there is a relay (small round black jobby) on the rear of the engine nowhere near the starter motor. I had a problem with my engine intermittently giving me starting problems and after months of cleaning contacts, replacing battery etc. etc and each time thinking I had cured the problem only for it to return in a few weeks.

Anyway, after tracing wiring to this relay and cutting the cable ties holding the wiring loom, one of the connections fell off this relay!!! As I had already obtained a replacement, I replaced it anyway and since then I have had no problems (fingers crossed).

This relay is shown on the wiring diagrams but is not so obvious as it is mounted nowhere near where you might expect to be. Also it is in addition to the big grey relay that is mounted on top of the starter motor itself.

Just a thought, in case you continue to have problems!! I hope not!!

Alan.

I tried googling the part for hours and even found the manufacturers website Carling Industries in the states but no way to order from them or to reference the correct switch.
It is the new Keyless System being used by Beneteau and its outside and unprotected .. The other switch is just as expensive btw..
