Hello,

New to all this and recently bought a Beneteau First 285. I want to take the toerail off to reseal it but the screw heads are blank ie no slot or cross, just smooth. Do I have to drill them out or is there a special to remove them?

Cheers,

Dave

If you have a look again you will see that the "thread" underneath is acually parallel grooves and that the whole rivet needs a special tool to push the "nut" on and clench it. you will have to drill them all out and you can replace with nuts and bolts.
Do you still want to take the toerail off!!

PS the leaks from the toe rail are usually the stanchion bases loose, the toe rails dont usually leak, on my 381 they are a 22mm or 24mm nut, take off from underneath and reseal.

May just take a couple out and wedge up. There is a slight leak at one of the stantions. I was really interested in the aft fairlead as it was broken and has turned into a "rope cutter". It is held on with the same blank heads so I will definitely drill them out.

Thanks for the quick replies and info.

The stanchions on all the bigger benes are separate from the toe rail! Dont make another leak by messing with the toe rail if it is separate.
