Hi

I am currently looking for my next adventure and the Swift Trawler 42 is currently at the top of my short list. As these are in short supply in the UK I am wondering if there are any owners on here, located in the south east (I live in Essex), that would be happy to show off their pride and joy to my SHMBO. Getting all the family across to Holland or France starts to get expensive difficult to fit in around school etc.

Foxes Marine at Ipswich have a new one in stock on the hard standing.
 
We have a 2007 Benetau ST42 in Greece which can be bought well.
It is not on the open market or openly advertised.
Once you have decided if it is the right boat for you and the family let me know and I will send you the full low down on it.
Easy enough to ship it back and cheap enough if you know where to go, also it is not unusual to negotiate this in a deal nowadays.

Sammy, I'm interested in hearing a report/views on the 44...you didn't keep it long, (I remember your new boat posts from last year I think). Why the quick change, I like the look/layout of the 44, we nearly went for it's block of flats like bigger brother....

At the risk of committing ‘thread drift’ but to answer Nigel’s questions, yes, we bought our new ST 44 last year and had a wonderful season visiting (notably) Cannes, San Remo, Genoa and Portofino (plus other marinas on the way! Living on Malabar for 7 weeks was heaven and we could have easily continued but for commitments. She handled really well – even in an un-forecasted F6! Although it was just the two of us for most of the time our respective offspring arrived from time to time (as they do) and still everything was comfortable and spacious.
The problem was my other half convinced me we would have even more fun in a bigger boat (surprisingly assisted by our friendly Beneteau dealer) plus we would have even more space for guests, hence swapping Malabar for a Beneteau Monte Carlo MC5 (to be named Zanzibar) which arrives in April – can’t wait!
Nigel, If you’d like a more detailed ‘report’ on the ST 44 (which will be full of praise) please just send me a PM and we’ll get back to you.

Boatings a terrible addiction!

Sounds like exciting times for you, did you get a chance / time for a factory visit?

The MC is a great looking boat, we had a couple launched by us while we were in France last year, one blue hull, one white; both looked great.

Im sure you will love the new boat and look forward to hearing all about it, I think you'll be the first MC5 owner active on the forum so be sure to be vocal :)

I'm moving away from the idea of a trawler style boat for the next step and towards a big cat with a sail; still I change my mind on my next boat at least twice a day!

Have you looked at the Schionning 38' 'crossover' motor cat with sails and engines that can cruise at 14kts on twin 75hp.

I agree it is an addiction.
We were lucky enough to be invited for a Factory visit which will take place early in March- very exciting. I understand photos are not allowed but I will compile a full report for the forum- although I have still to post the photos of our summer trip once I get my new laptop up and running!

They let us film in Les Herbiers, perhaps they are more secretive at Dompierre...:)

Don't know where you are staying but the Boisniard Chateau is nice, about half an hour away and a good restaurant in the grounds...apologies if you already know this.

It does...multihull looks to be making a bit of a comeback at present...lagoon seem to be selling as quickly as they can build the boats and Jaguar, Fountaine Pajot and others have very convincing layouts for long term, far reaching cruising.

But I need to retire before I'll have the time to enjoy 8 knt passage making...

The schionning is ultra light, that's the only way those specs can work!
14kts cruise is exactly on the numbers for most power cat's econ cruise, so you can actually motor to where you want to go and then break out the sails for the last bit of the leg; the best of both worlds that only a cat can achieve.

Only hitch is the massive beam: med marinas will turn you away!

Interesting choice and I'm sure many other forumites would love to know how you get on with the MC5. Please post pics!

I took photos and film clips during build of my Antares 30, but they request you don't post online which is fair enough. Great to show friends and family though.

Pretty certain sea school in MDL Chatham on the River Medway use one as their school boat.
Probably available for short hire.!
Our club hired it for a day last year.Nice sensible safe boat with decks you can walk round without needing the skills of a fairly nimble mountain goat, not of course that many of today boats have side decks the width of a Mars bar and enough ankle snapping angles to ensure a visit to casuality.
