Beneteau Sense 43

I liked it as a design, however I can sail but I like powerboats too which I think is what Beneteau are after. Would you sail it across the pacific through a hurricane - probably not. sail it around the med - definitely. I really liked the sense 50 as well.

Great idea to have the mainsheet attached well back on the boom. and taken to an arch, which puts it far enough back but without it obstructing the cockpit, but then they spoil it by not fitting a traveller.

And.......

A 360º image to have a play with

Great pictures - thanks Snooks. I plan to go and have a look for myself tomorrow. The concept looks good, but I need to see the quality for myself.

From a quick look at the pictures, there are a few things I like and a few i'm not so keen on... but one feature that I think is superb... the big opening port holes/windows into the cockpit.... what a superb way of 'connecting' the cockpit with the rest of the boat rather than it being a very seperate space.

Why dont they just build a fecking Cat instead of trying to reinvent the monohull?

Can you imagine trying to move around that saloon with ANY heel on at all?

My only thought was that it was missing a cabin. Huge storage though. TBH, it felt like a short range cruiser?

[please remember, I'm a noob and am running on my own perception]
I suspect you're not that far off... it looks like an interior designed for a warm climate, and local anchorages.... I would imagine the hull is more than capable.... but the interior, as PD said above, looks like it could be ..... 'challenging'.... offshore

PS.... nowt wrong with that.... certainly not a criticism... more an observation on its likely intended use at design

I think there are body harnesses that clip to the saloon ceiling to provide much-needed stability. :)

It really felt like a caravan, more than any other boat I was in.

After these posts I went to look at the Sense and was staggered to find an extra bunk in the cockpit locker - I kid you not!! No access to the rest of the boat. Quirky!!

A bunk and a washing machine to be precise .... I assume you keep the slave locked down there. When your socks need washing you throw them in with the odd bowl of grawl?

That's the crew quarters. Usually in the forepeak but as the Sense has such a large cockpit, all the accommodation is pushed forward.

I believe the Sense tries to add the comfort of a mobo to a sailing yacht.

She looks like a good boat to potter about in the Med. I am not sure it would make "sense" in the UK as one might not be able to really enjoy her for what she is in the challenging weather and sea. I do not expect to see many around here if buyers have some common "sense".

I was really intrigued by the Sense 43. I like performance boats and dont view Beneteaus as good sea boats but we are planning a warm climate circumnavigation with young child and I thought that the interior concept was interesting as a live aboard space, it would have good trade wind performance and the cockpit is an amazing space. Not sure how it would handle a blow, there are no obvious sea berths and the interior would be tricky when heeled or in rough weather. I keep thinking about it though...

Challenges some of our preconceptions, which is good. Key design point seems to be the lower than usual cockpit sole.
However the cockpit lockers on the 43 were too big to be usable - you would have to step into them to retrieve almost anything.
And the winches were too far out to work effectively. You have to reach over the over-large cockpit seats, and given any angle of heel this would be a killer.
