Looking to change from Motor to Sail, saw one of these on brokerage in Holland and really liked it.

Dont seem to see many of them over here, is there a reason for that I am not aware of??

I've sailed my Beneteau Oceanis 393 around Turkey for 5 years with no problems. She sails well to wind and has a great interior layout. When I was looking for a yacht I asked various charter co's. which AWB gave the least problems, they said Beneteau.

Hi!
We have a 393 which we sailed around the Med for a year 2007-2008. Are now selling, is ashore on Aigina just off Athens. Euro 80000 for a good, clean, basic boat where everything works. (including VAT in Europe). Look at Williams and Smithells site for details or PM me!

The 393 is a good used buy and should hold its value well. I would also urge you to look at the Oceanis 411 if you like Beneteau's particularly the celebration version. Both models come up for sale regularly but well priced clean examples sell fast.

393 and 411 Oceanis are great boats and sell far too fast if clean and well speced!

There is a 393 on Ebay for sale for £80k but I would hold out for a 411. I saw a 411 oceanis with a mate who was interested and nearly bought it myself I was so impressed but it was withdrawn from sale.

Cheers

Paul

They are nice boats (IMO). The cockpit is very comfy, and she has a great interior layout.
The ones I have sailed have all gone like a dream.

As for why you haven't seen many over here - may depend on where you are. The draft may be too deep for some areas. Or it's just that they are suited to the charter market - I wouldn't want to cross an ocean in one, although others may disagree with me on that one.

Happy Sailing if you do buy one.

I wouldn't want to cross an ocean in one

Why?

I suspect that is because some people believe you can only cross oceans in boats that are long and narrow with half their displacement in a lump of lead hanging off the bottom.

Empirical evidence shows this is just not so, but people with very strong belief systems generally have difficulty with facts!

Ben 411 Celebration

Actually, good friend of mine did a solo-transat in his 411. He encountered everything from the edge of a hurricane (lashed into his bunk with bare poles) to days of calms.

I have sailed it with him in a F8, admittedly downwind, and it was a stable, fast sail.

Best wishes

H
