What is the draft of a 2002 model Beneteau Oceanis 361? The owners manual mentions 1.53 however when I stand next to it (outside of the water of course!!) I can see that the height from the bottom of the bulb until the waterline is around 1.80.
I am confused!!!
Does the draft exclude the height of the keel bulb?

Yes, the 361 like most boats of its type was built with two drafts. The shallow draft ones usually have a lower aspect ratio fin and a longer/heavier bulb to keep the ballast ratio comparable with the deeper draft. What is lost is the sharp edge of windward performance, although not usually noticeable in ordinary use. (you have the deeper one anyway!)

The 1.53m shallow draft version has small wings on the keel. The 1.8m deep draft keel has a single bulb and no wings.

Somebody on the Beneteau stand at the Southampton boatshow mentioned that the deeper keel version had a taller mast but there is no mention of this in the Beneteau literature.

I believe that the figure shown in the manual is for the "light displacement" draft (i.e. empty of fuel, water, people, bikes, dinghy, etc.). This seems to be standard Beneteau practice.
My Oceanis 331 book says a draft of 1.6m but when I measure it to the actual waterline when it's out of the water, the draft is 1.75m. (Must be why I hit the sill when the gauge showed 1.7m!)

There are definitely two versions, 1.53m and 1.80m deep. I have the deep keel version with no wings and you can see a photo of a shallow version for sale with wings on Foxes website.

The Beneteau owners manual for the 361 only mentions the 1.53m keel but I believe the sales brochure does mention both keels.

I think the majority of 361s have the 1.53m keels.

I have the centre cockpit version, the 36cc. There were two options with this model as with the rear cockpit 361 of either 1.79m or 1.53m. Both options were shown on both models in the brochure that came with the boat. These were the 2002 models. I hope this helps.

My 361 is the stern cockpit version, was built in 2001 and has the 1.80 m deep keel. Here's another dimension for you. The depth from the bottom of the hull to the underside of the keel is 1.30 m.

Whatever the depth of the keel the 361 is a great boat, much better than the 373 which followed it and the latest 37 which I found very disappointing from design and quality points of view. The 361 is quick, sails well and is very comfortable if you get caught out in a blow. Although I am obviously now prejudiced I prefer the stern cockpit version to the CC.
