Beneteau Mystery Component

Having taken delivery of a new Antares Series 9 earlier this year, I have found a component that looks like a lever of some sort, in the 'spares' case.

The lever is about 250mm long, 40mm wide with a hole about 25mm dia at one end with two short screws each side of the hole.

Does anyone recognise the description of the component and can advise it's function? I have spoken with an owner of a Beneteau sailing vessel who also has this 'mystery' component, so it does not appear to be specific to motor boats.

As I have not yet mastered the art of attaching images to this posting, if anyone wishes to send me a PM with an email address I could send an image for verification.

Thanks in anticipation

David

Er, could be the emergency rudder tiller or handle for manual bilge pump or handle for anchor windlass. Just guessing

We just took delivery of a new Series 9 LE just last weekend and so are still finding our way around. We have not found that item yet but no doubt its lurking somewhere. If no solution comes up on here I know a man who will know but that will have to wait for next weekend.
I take it you use the boat all year round but I guess down your way you dont get too much really cold weather. How far do you go on protecting the engine raw water system and domestic water system. For now we just left the heating to run a few times a day and sea cocks open!!

Hm. You are looking for something circular with a nut (the main hole allows this to pass thru) and then two locating holes for those screws. It either opens/closes something (like a deck water/fuel cap, though sounds too beefy for this) or allows manual control of something (like emercency tiller) or is a special tool (like something to unscrew a pulley or flywheel). If a sailing boat and powerboat have ther same, then it's not an engine thing - it's for a deck fitting, cover or inspection hatch or (thiough it sounds a bit smal) iit could be something to fix/lash the steering in event of sterring failure.

interesting puzzle!

Thanks to all who offered suggestions to the 'Mystery Component'. Thanks also to BrendanS for posting the image.

I am not really any nearer confirming it's use, although I will look more closely at the steering option!

I have contacted Beneteau who suggested I contact the company who sold the boat. They also cannot identify the component!

The mystery continues ..........

Looks like the special tool for taking a winch apart, the self tailing type, praps also used for dismantling a anchor windlass?

<hr width=100% size=1>Sod the Healey - I think I'll buy an E-Type.

Thanks again to all who have offered suggestions.

Thanks to Dickies who contacted Beneteau for me, I can now confirm it's use....... For tightening the drive belt on the bow thruster.

I would never have guessed that!!!
