This may be of interest to other Beneteau owners. I was sailing a First 47.7 2001 build last year when the engine would not rev beyond 1600 rpm due to fuel starvation. Reason turned out to be bits of black mastic used to seal the diesel feed pipe falling off and blocking it's inlet at the bottom. It was easy enough to sort out but removing opening diesel tanks in a seaway would make a nasty mess. Reason this came to mind was a friends 40.7's eberspacher's problem turned out to be a blocked fuel line for the same reason!

Are you sure it was black mastic - I thought the same and it turned out that the black bits were the mould?/fungus/lurgies? that can grow in diesel. The engineer confirmed it by checking one of my spare jerry cans and sure enough - they were there too.

If they are black, rubbery and about the size of mouse droppings that might be the problem.

That is very interesting as I had hitherto thought that diesel bugs formed more of a sludge. In this case though it was clearly mastic as several bits still were circular in shape. Quite a dangerous problem if it caught one at the wrong time I would have thought.
