I am considering the purchase of my first boat and have shortlisted the above two models. Both are 1990 models. Both have twin 205hp petrol engines (about 380 hours). Both are very clean and have obviously been very well maintained. There is little difference in price.

My observations are that the Beneteau seems far bigger (certainly in terms of its beam) and has much more stowage. The Princess, however, is a prettier boat with sleeker lines.

I would appreciate other people's impartial views on all aspects (pros and cons) of these two boats.

Many thanks.

Welcome

Firstly you will get much more response on here if you fill out your profile cos then people know where you are from and where you intend to cruise etc etc, this makes it easier for us lot to reply.

Personally I think the Princess is a very good boat. 10ft beam 26.5 ft long and a very good sea keeping boat. I know someone who has just re-engined with twin diesels and gets 34 knots 29 cruising.

The Beneteau I don’t know much about but I would think Princess were far batter at building motor boats 10 yrs ago than Beneteau.

Let us know what you want to do with the boat where you want to keep her and what areas you want to cruise to, this will help us to give our opinions.

Cheers

Thanks, DepSol. I'm in Guernsey. I intend to keep the boat in a marina here and use her predominantly for local daycruising around the island and over to Herm and Sark. So for most of the time it would be just me and my wife on board. I would however like to have the facility to entertain visitors and so ideally it would sleep 4 comfortably.

If you look at my profile I too am in Guernsey.

Couple of things to help you with for the forum is ….

If you want to see who someone is click on their name and their profile will come up

If you see a flashing envelope in the main screen go to user options and you will find an area where private messages have been sent to you.

Actually thinking about the Flyer 8 (with grey stickers on it has flyer in the boat name) if it is the one I am thinking of then it is a good boat, saw it in Herm the other night and I know it has been serviced regularly and over wintered on the QEII East Arm. Nice but prob will need new covers unless they have been replaced. If the 266 is Andy Flemings then that’s pretty good aswell although I have not been on either of these boats to give you a better opinion.

I will send you a Private Message (PM) with my number and you can give me a ring if you so wish.

By the way what is your name, first name if you don’t want to release your second.

Whatever your choice, best of luck and see you out there, my boat is Matrix moored in the Albert. You will also see there is a few of us Guerns on here.

Dont know much about these particular models. But I dont thing Princess has built a bad boat yet. Would have thought it will be much better built. Also it would sell easier. Not to happy about the petrol option. But suppose it dont matter as much in Guernsey, but certainly would if you get more experienced and wanted to go further.

They both look good but I may be slightly biased as I have spent time cruising on a 266.

Done a lot of cruising on a 266, a few years ago now though, twin 205hp petrols,

Probably THE best sea boat of its size, absolutely amazing sea keeping, very soft ride indeed coupled with stunning performance (over 40 knots!)

I've actually had the props out and still a soft landing, inspired. A little gem.

Don't get one with four cylinder petrols though or single V8, it has to have the twin 205hp with duoprops. Performance feels "flat" with small engines, comes alive with the twin 205's.

Can drink though if performance enjoyed to the full, sensible consumption at cruising speeds, we reckoned on 12 gallons an hour total at about 25 knots.

Great boat!
