Does anyone have any thoughts on an Antares Series 9 for fishing and weekend cruising on the south coast of Ireland ?
Sea worthy ? Fuel Economy ? General handling ?

Got one of those, works well for just exactly what you describe, with a good swillable fishing area of about 10' x 8', comfy saloon, decent bedroom & lavy cum shower, ( Hmm, perhaps I shouldn't have said cum shower)economical and easy to handle and really quite well put together where it counts. Really safe walk around side decks & bow too.

I've had one for the last 3 years. Reckon they are good value for the money. Don't do much fishing, but the cockpit is very generous. Plenty of storage space. Didn't choose the fly bridge option as it is not easy to nip up\down the steps with the canopy in place and little room up top - rather be with the family down below!

Fuel economy approx 20 litres per hour at 3400 rpm gives between 15-17 knots. Max speed about 20 kts at 3800rpm approx. (Volvo KAD43P engine).

Handling generally good, as is stability, but having previously had a 28' wooden displacement boat before - the series 9 is a BIG improvement!

I have driven and delivered a few, go well, better seakeeping than its size would suggest, economical only downside bit noisy on a long run( i did 220 miles in 2 days) and my legs are too long to fit at the interior helm easily......

We have had one for over three years now from new. Based in Brighton means we see all sorts of weather just on a fishing trip or run down to the Solent. Agree with what the others say, its very capable. You know its rough when there is a constant waterfall off the back of the flybridge!! Built to a price to some extent but a lot of boat for the money. Another 9 in Brighton is heavily used for fishing 20/25 mls offshore. Performs well. Good luck.
