Having just brought an Antares 760, I am considering fitting a small outboard, as an emergency back up and possible slow cruising on canals. Would appreciate any advice as to what engine and bracket would be suitable for swim platform mounting, and is remote throttle control possible on small engines so boat can be steered from cabin. Your comments would be welcome especially if you have the same model boat and have fitted an outboard. 2 stroke or 4 stroke?
thanks in advance , Seasick

7.6m boat is about 24ft I think - probably weighs around 2.5 - 3ton?

You'll need very different depending on what you want.

Practically no power at all on canal - we had a 20' buckingham with an 8hp yamaha 2stroke which struggled to keep down to the speed limit! A 6hp or 8hp 4 stroke would have been better.

However, as a backup, certainly for coastal, you would need a lot more - 15hp or even 20 (and not sure you can get the aux brackets to take that kind of weight.

Whatever you do, try and get a high-thrust prop as a standard prop will be next to useless on that sort of application and fit a small rudder to the ob as well for some decent steerage.

Four stroke would be better but heavier.

I had a power boat similar to yours (7m) and it had a 9hp Evinrude auxiliary, I tried it flat out and could only get 2.5 knots. you may find that if you could find a second hand 2 stroke Evinrude 15hp it would be better. The 15hp is the 9hp with a bigger carburettor so with it weighing the same you could get an auxiliary outboard bracket.

Sorry can't answer your question but could not resist saying congrats on getting your new boat. Bought my 760 7 months ago and have been very happy with it.
