Bembridge Yacht club

Why would you pay a fair chunk to be a member of a club, only yo get crowded out of it by non-paying, non-members?
I've been to Bembridge SC many times and it's nice club in a great location. It would appear to be a sound business model as it's been successful for a lifetime. Unlike the nearby pub, which has been closed in my sailing career.
The pubs, clubs and cafes have different markets and purposes.
Why do people feel entitled to criticise a private club which is none of their business? You might as well see some people having a drink at their home and expect them to invite you in.

Im not criticising a club, I am simply saying if a place is heaving i walk on to the next establishment why prop up the bar for 20 mins waiting to be served.

Unfortunately not generally true in the Solent area.
Some clubs have reciprocal arrangements, some are open to any member of another YC, some are simply 'members only'.
Some frequently have functions which make them 'members only'.
Some have compromise rules such as 'visiting yachtsment welcome, provided they've arrived by yacht from beyond the Solent'.

I think the reality is clubs need to balance being open to visitors against crowding out their own members at peak times.

Interested to know which ones don't let in visiting yachtsmen. I know RYS is a bit up itself but I've never noticed it at others. I'm not saying there are none but my perception is that most will welcome visitors unless it's a special occasion in which case of course they may be rather busy!

I don't think RORC are open to non members. but it's a while since I investigated.

Alright !

Langstone SC doesn't get many visitors as it's tucked away at the top of Langstone Harbour, also accessible in Chichester Harbour if one goes through Sweare Deep and West Cut - past Northney marina; dries to soft mud half tide, there's a visitors mooring near the slip on the Chichester side or spare - half tide - moorings - 02392 484677 - friendly and informal.

Bosham SC is a lot posher with paid staff but I've always found friendly

Keyhaven SC ( I have to be careful here, there are two clubs side by side, I mean the lively one ) is spectacularly friendly

Redcliffe YC on the Frome near Wareham

Lyme Regis SC on the Cobb

Royal Western YC Plymouth

Royal Fowey YC

Royal Jersey YC

that lot should keep you busy researching for a little while, Flower Power...:)

Redcliffe YC on the Frome near Wareham, (Agreed very friendly and worth a visit to moor alongside their pontoon if they have room).

Lyme Regis SC on the Cobb (No its not, its on the town sea front accessed through a double gate and located behind the sea front shops, very friendly with showers etc).

Royal Western YC Plymouth

Royal Fowey YC

Pete,

my knowledge of Lyme Regis SC being on the Cobb is decades old so like pilot books and charts - even electronic jobs - one needs to check for oneself what the modern situation is, I hope they're still as friendly now; but long since I've always gone straight to Brixham to Studland, and vice versa.
