Can anyone give me some advise on the following please?

I have some silver coloured seacocks with red painted steel handles. They are ball valve types with female threaded ends for the skin fitting one end and the hose connection at the other. I have a feeling they may be Nickle plated brass, which I understand is unsuitable for below waterline use.

From the description above, can anyone confirm the material and it's suitability for below waterline use? The boat is 6 years old and these seacocks are the originals. They "look" ok, but I guess it's what one can't see..... Should I replace them?

Thanks

From your description I believe them to be nickel plated brass. I was looking to buy some today and asked the chandler the same question about ones of exactly that description! Bronze ones are now on order (about £26 for a 1.5" one less some discount)

replaced mine

I had a pair on teh cockpit drains for ten years but found they tended to get stiff to use (due to nylon ball swelling?) and replaced with Blakes - if you do this be warned that the Blakes are slightly smaller diameter, which adds immensely to the fun!
