Bellow, seal (?) change

Hello !
Sorry, I do not know the right expression/ words for this: In Sweden we talk about the "sailbellow", which is supposed to be the rubber ring between the hull and the gear (on which end the propeller is located). Penta MD5a and 110s, in a Maxi Fenix.
- How often do you really change it ?? Mine is now 7 years (should according to Penta be changed every 5-7 year). My friends have not changed it ever, and my bellows is in excellent condition. But a broken/ leaking bellow would not be nice ;-)
- Is it easy, or hard, or even *very hard* for an amateur like me to change it by myself ??

it's not difficult at all, as long as there is space enogh to move around and lift the S-drive. Some Swedish insurance companies recommend 7 years for you to be sure to receive full compensation in case something happens. The working instructions provided with the seal is easy to understand, so anybody can do it.

I imagine you are speaking of a Volva Penta saildrive seal?
Volvo are quite clear that the life is seven years. They last much longer but if they fail trouble!! You could have a problem with your insurance company if the seal is older.
Changing the seal is fairly simple expect to take a day, you will need a torque wrench and a good set of spanners a workbench and a helper.
The kit cost about €200.00 and includes all instructions and sealing wire etc.
