Is it safe to go there now without being persecuted for the red diesel, assuming the correct paperwork?

Yes, but do have a record of your diesel purchases to hand and receipt for full tax paid in the UK. The situation hasn't changed one bit - the EU still wants total harmony on marked fuel, but we seem to have a sort of wayleave for the moment. The fallback advice is, as before, take full notes of any intervention and it should be possible to get the higher authorities to annul the charge or repay it if you have had a knee on your neck, so to speak.

Actually it's all very civilised, but in Belgium there can be a disconnect between what the ambassador grandly proclaims and what the peaked hats actually do.

As from this Saturday (tomorrow) the wearing of facemasks will be compulsory is all shops and supermarkets.
