Belgium, how red is red?

I was stopped once by HMRC for a tank dip. They simply sucked out a pint or so into a sight glass. It looked pretty basic, though there may have been some clever kit or dye reagent in the glass?

I think, and have a little experience of HMRC checking for red in cars as they used to visit quarries which I ran checking employees and contractors vehicles for red, they are just or were looking for colour on spot checks as the likelihood is that the miscreant will be using it 100% and in any case the dye is visible in relatively low concentrations. The more sophisticated markers I think are for checking when wholesale fraud and large "industrial" denaturalising the red takes place allegedly in places like Ireland. We had one serial offender (contractor employee) who had previously paid fines who had his car impounded and crushed, it was a banger though.

You have got it, back of the net. Ive just been a cranky old man with a bee in his bonnet. :)
However, bottom line, they are being pretty stupid from the point of view of tourism and I remember when this came up a few years ago, they got bolshie and a letter was issued in several languages to explain to jobsworths if you got pulled what the situation was. I still have my copies on board. There was a post when it quietened down,by a Belgian guy, please come back we miss you! Well any one with any sense will not be going anywhere near now! And I repeat to those who say I dont like foreigners, its not the foreigners its jobsworths I dont like!

Having disagreed with you earlier in the thread I have to say that I agree with everything you say here:encouragement: I would really like to know how the local businesses feel about the reduced UK boating trade. It must be having some affect on the local bars and restaurants.
