I’m looking to change my slab reefing with lazy jacks for a behind mast reefing system. I had this before on Rachel Alice a 24 ft motorsailer.
my existing has a nearly new main

Don't think anybody is making add on reefing any more - its day is gone, partly because most were not very good and partly because the cost would now be out of proportion to the value of an old boat. I am a greatr fan of proper in mast having had 2 boats with the Selden system, but no way would I fit an add on to a boat like a Steadfast.

It's a great thing not to have to go forward to take in a reef or drop the sail when a small boat's leaping around., but I don't see a furling system working at any sensible price. Your current main is very likely to be the wrong shape for furling of any sort, and will be horrible without battens.

I reckon you'd spend a good bit less money and have a better system if you lead your lines back to the cockpit. If you do this, my top tip would be to spend decent money on the blocks you need, get ones with ball or roller bearings, not plain ones. A boat jumble may well come up with the clutches/jammers and stuff that you'll need. I'm a fan of single line reefing, but it may be easier to have lines for the leach and the luff.

Have a look at furling booms which have few of the inherent drawbacks mast furling. However the prices are steep, tho you may be able to modify and keep your new sail. It might be attractive if you fully intend to keep the boat a long while.

On the whole, I might heed the others and sort out simple, efficient slab system on such a handy sized sail.
