I had a call from the Yacht Harbour today reporting an "infestation" of bees eminating from under my mainsail cover. (I've been away for a few weeks trying to get up close and personal with that unpronouncable Icelandic volcano which has now turned off)

Any ideas on how I should tackle the problem? Local council pest control people want an arm and a leg in call out fees, and not having seen the extent of the problem myself I'm loathe to call them in. My plan is to carefully peel back the cover and hoist the main, rendering the little devils homeless! I'm not sure how reasonable or foolhardy this plan is.

I'm sure that you guys can come up with some rational, some amusing and some downright ridiculous alternative strategies!

As Pye End says, contact the local Beekeepers association...there will definitely be one or two of their members only too happy to take the swarm off your hands!

Whatever you do, DO NOT TRY AND SORT THE PROBLEM YOURSELF...well that is unless you fancy some time at the Doctors or worse in Hospital with numerous bee stings!

My father was a beekeeper for many years, and whilst he no longer keeps them, his opinion was the same...speak to a local beekeeper!

Would this be known by a scot as having 'Bees in your bonnet' perhaps

What I do know is that I have a decent video camera, with a good very long range zoom on it.

I'm prepared to drive down, and sitting at a decent distance, video the whole event.

Can I ask what you, the ECF members, would be prepared to pay for the sight of a fellow forumite diving off their bow with a cartoon style mass of bees in pursuit?

:D

Neil, that's not the ECF spirit. You should follow protocol and post on youtube for all to enjoy.
