Curiosity got the better of me

As this is such an important issue I decided to do a search on self-cooling cans and unfortuntately it's still 2 years away http://www.dotpackaging.com/features/drinks/fdrinks013.shtml
but uses evaporating water held in a gel and absorbed in a desicant. Not something to try at home.

On a more practical note I found an article where apparently a tank crew couldn't put out an electrical fire threatening their live ammo because the manual fire extinguishers had been used for cooling beer cans. So keeping large quantities of dry ice/CO2 on board is the answer!

Re: cooling boxes

Cans of Lager definitely do not float!!!

Having finished a the JOG St Peters Port race last year we were greeted by the welcome committee lobbing cans at us from a rib. We'd managed to drop about 8 in the water before we realised what was happening and had to stand there and watch cold beers sinking!

In our defence it had been a long crossing with not too much sleep!

Hmmm definitely remember those beers being cold.... wonder how they managed it?
