Been out for the first time last night, and advice on tuition in the South West pl...

Ive tried to do my homework daydream, and already have the mooring side of things organised, and have a sum set aside for problems n+1. Hopefully it won't be required but you're entirely right to mention it.
Have you costed the following:
Waterproofs
Deck shoes
Deck boots
Gloves
Life jackets
Safety harnesses
First aid kit
Cutlery and crockery
Pots and pans
Kettle
Boat hook
Fenders
Ensign
Dinghy and outboard
Etc, etc.

If they and many more items are not on the boat you are buying, plus any "improvements" or mainenance items like antifouling and new ropes, then you need money for all of these and more. The chandlery looks an inviting place to visit on a regular basis, but to really shock yourself keep a spreadsheet of everything you spend. I started on with my current boat and it was frightening. SWMBO has never seen it luckily!

As a refugee from another expensive hobby Concerto (motor racing) I have no intention of keeping a spreadsheet, it would probably make me cry!!! ;) Many of the items you list are included in the boats inventory, and some I already have (a little tender with o/b) and some of my kayaking gear will be redeployed for use on the boat, but there is still a good bunch of stuff I need to get together, including some of the personal items you list and also navigation eqpt. I have the RNLI coming out to the boat next week to give me a rundown of advised safety eqpt. for piece of mind too to be sure I don't miss anything important.

Loving all the feedback, its invaluable, please keep it coming!

I too am in Teignmouth Rhyddid! Thanks for the recommendation.

You're welcome... PM me if I can be of any assistance . Redshank Evo26 is a formite on here, also in Teignmouth. He has post a few video's of "around-the-cans" in his vessel off the beach and I believe is a motor sport fan......... He may be worth contacting
Cheers Jack
