Why is it that we call red meat
COW - BEEF
PIG - PORK
etc

But white meat:
Chicken - Chicken
Turkey - Turkey
Fish - Fish

Blame the French?

The posher food (cow, sheep) when served as cooked dishes became referred to by their french names cos mostly those that ate such food were rich conquering and french speakin Normans or their descendents. This didn't happen with cheapy food like fish and chickens as eaten by the lowly anglo-saxon riffraff.
