We need to have custom mattress protectors and fitted sheets made. Does anyone have a Targa 34 bed drawing or template (or know a company that does) for the forward berth? It's such an odd shape that it would be hard to measure. Perhaps someone knows who made the original foam mattresses?

We are in the process of sourcing custom linen for our new boat. On the recommendation of a friend we have gone with Heirloom Linens. Very helpful. We made a trace of the mattress on an old sheet and sent that in.

Waiting on the final product, but we are very hopeful as the samples of the linen we have chosen are wonderful.

They will do a protector as well.

The mattress protector is c£70 and likewise for the fitted sheet.

Heirlooms make beautiful linen but at £70 a pop will be dear if we need two sets of everything. For mattress protectors I'm wondering if I can get oversized ones and get somebody to cut them down from a template then hem and sew on the elasticated straps. Surely easy to do?

We've found some very nice off the shelf blue and white bed linen. Came from Sweden :).

Have you tried Tockfield?

We had custom made sheets and mattress protectors made for a very odd shaped mattress in the aftcabin of our boat by http://www.marinebedding.co.uk

They used a template we'd made of paper to make the mattress too. All fitted perfectly and we've been very happy with the results. Very easy company to deal with and very helpful.

No connection; just a satisfied customer.

By contrast, I had a sprung mattress made by the same company for the forecabin of my Targa 40. They were extremely slow to deliver, and the mattress is terrible - I ordered a firm mattress and what they have supplied is somewhere between soft and medium; it's really uncomfortable. I'm in the process of replacing it again now. I'd strongly recommend you *don't* use this supplier.

No connection, just a very dissatisfied customer.

Mattress protectors are easy to make. Buy an oversized protector and some elastic. Cut the protector to the correct shape - template the mattress with paper or card. You don't need to hem the cut edges, simply overlock them, then stitch on strategic bits of elastic.

Heirlooms is the best. They will use very high quality materials if you want (600++ threadcounts) and the stitching quality is faultless. Not cheap, but well worth it imho. Very nice team to deal with and I wouldn't dream of going to any other supplier.

As for the original Q, just make a paper template, or plot it out on a grid of 10cm squares

I'm sorry to hear that. We ordered a pocket sprung mattress for the boat and it's as comfortable as the Vi-Spring high quality mattress we have at home.

Did you give the company a chance to sort it out?

I just read P's request, and for a moment I thought to suggest him a supplier called "Telerie Ghidoli".
Not very popular outside IT, but it's the reference supplier for any demanding clients in Milan, regardless of whether they need something for a town apartment, a lake home, or a boat.

Now, I had a look at the Heirlooms website, and I found several similarities in their (remarkable) business model, when compared to Ghidoli.
Interestingly, the main difference that I found - just by looking at their website, I have to say - is that the former underlines their 30+ years history, which includes supplies to the "Royal Family", "executive jet manufacturers", "leading yacht builders", and so forth.
In sharp contrast, Ghidoli (whose fourth generation is running a family business established 130+ years ago - yep, ONE HUNDRED and thirty, not a typo) present themselves just as a "supplier of custom solution for any clients' needs", or something along those lines (no EN version of their website).

Of course, that's not so relevant in the context of this thread - and I'm sure that petem can't go wrong with the suggestions he received so far. But this proves - sort of - something I always though about my own Country:
We have plenty of crooks. God only knows how many of them are around.
But we also have folks who are right at the top of the food chain in their own business, and are also capable to stay up there with an understatement which is second to none, beating even Brits in this respect...
Ain't that amazing? :)

I forgot to respond to this, sorry - the answer is that they repeatedly delayed delivery until we got to the point that there was no time to try it until the boat arrived in the Med. So by then it was too late to do anything - and tbh by then I had had enough of the endless excuses and didn't want to get into some extended debate about the firmness of the mattress. Mine was also a pocket-sprung mattress btw, but when you lie on this supposedly firm mattress, it compresses to the point that you're touching the bed base in places. Meh.

Very much not our experience. Our boat mattress is fantastically comfortable and we certainly don't bottom out the springs. (Well only on anniversaries and special occasions; I'll get into so much trouble if Mrs M reads this...)

But one pays ones money and takes ones choice in these things.
