Maybe a strange question for this site but maybe somebody can help me.

After done several different jobs i am looking for a new challenge. Now i am at the point what i always loved to do....working on/at/with boats. Hereby i was thinking becoming crew for yacht deliveries.

Does somebody have experience in this world and tell me little more? Is it possible to live from it, how many deliveries per year and so on.

Hope somebody can help me.

Grtz,
Erwin

Unless this is referring to the necessity to have all your own kit (including lifejacket which you will normally need), I suggest crewseekers is what is being referred to, although it costs to sign up and I didn't find it that good for getting delivery "work" a few years back.

As Pete said. No money in deliveries for crew (hence quotes around "work"). Best you can normally hope for is some of your travel costs reimbursed at one end or the other (e.g. budget airline home). Often a delivery company will find a way to make you pay to work for them, e.g. a fee to sign up to their crewing list.

You do of course get fed and watered on board.

Try superyachts

As others have said you wont get paid to crew a delivery yacht but maybe you should investigate crewing on superyachts. You'll need a nice white polo shirt with appropriate logo, neat blue shorts and be prepared to spend more time hosing down and polishing the boat than sailing it but at least its a paid job on a boat ! I fear there may be some competition but if you are young, blonde and female you'll have a head start. Woops just re-read your post. Erwin isnt a girls name is it!

Moored next to Mirabella V in Olbia a few years ago. ALL the crew - both sexes - looked like fashion or glamour models.
Boy did they work hard polishing all day long!!

(We were just behind them in a 30ft Bav - I think people assumed it was a tender :))

Go for it!

Hi Erwin,

Doing what you like in life is always a good idea!

Years ago, I went on a lot of deliveries and became a yacht delivery captain myself. I think it's definitely a good start in the yachting industry. You build miles, get more experience and knowledge, make friends within the yachting community and you're already bust with boats.

Now, the truth is that with crewing you don't earn any money. You get food and the experience in exchange for your help to deliver the boat. Some yacht delivery companies offer you a bonus or a compensation for your air travel. There is a difference whether you are crew or first mate and have some tickets under your belt.

Of course, when you crew and get good reports from the captains, you might become a yacht delivery captain yourself and then you earn money. The more you deliver, the more you earn.

But, in order to live from it, you have to keep going. And it also depends how much you need to live. If you're alone or you have wife and kids, big difference.

Have a look on my website, it might give you some inspiration!

All the best,

Dominique
