hi all, interesting to hear the views about this restaurant,we were thinking of going there ourselves,we tried it awhile ago & thought it very nice but it would appear that it has gone downhill somewhat,it looks like back to our old favourite the bluebird in lymington then, any info on the M B would be appreciated, regards mm1

I like Beaulieu a lot as a place to visit. Every time we go there we give the Master Builder one more chance and it lets us down each time.

The last time we never even got to eat. A combination of reception not talking to Restaurant and neither being that bothered.

Don't make a special effort to go there.

Henry :)

What a fantastic location, should be wonderful. But it is expensive, rude and uninterested staff. Beer is not well kept and as other will tell you, could not get served with food.

I would have written the same comments as above when I went there quite regularly (you get little choice when moored at BH) about 8 years ago, its a petty it appears not to have improved much since then because the rivers a beautiful place to go.

Take enough with you to eat on board... :(

I haven't eaten in the Restaurant for a long time but the reports I hear are not encouraging.

In my experience, the Pub remains much the same as it has ever been - mediocre food, offhand service and a faint air of neglect about the whole place, in spite of what purported to be a face lift and change of management two or three years back. It's a nice place to have a pint on a sunny day (once you've queued for an eternity to get it) and the location is second to none, but it could be so much more.

My boat's moored on the river so I'm a captive audience - otherwise I'd never go there, tbh.

Thank you all, interesting it would appear that it is not worth the money,a real shame because as you say a fantastic venue.
F P part of our boating enjoyment is that we like to go out for dinner so we don't eat a lot on board, each to there own eh,regards mm1

F P Point taken,I suppose this is why Lymington&yarnmouth are so busy as they have more choice & hence better quality& value, I have to say the bluebird is a great favourite of ours,mm1

Wasted Opportunity

Just to add my tuppence worth, I'm a local so perhaps a tad bias, I think the river is one of the most beautiful to visit in the Solent area, as for the Masters, it's a great asset going to waste in the hands of the current owner/manager, it has the potential to make someone a handsome living.

If they took a look how the Folly is run, good food, fast service, caring staff, very slick operation, OK it isn't the cheapest but WE all go back in droves year on year, or perhaps they (at the Master Builders) don't want the river full of good paying people/boatowners, I just think it is a loss to both sides, boaters and the pub. Then again those of you who have visited the motor museum will find the same could be said of the restaurant in there as well.

But hey, what do I know!

have been a number of times this year to the Master Builder, had a few relaxed afternoons there in the garden having had a burger from the make-shift summer BBQ area.. but the happy memories probably to do with the company and the beer....

However had a evening snack which we had a horrid incident when a bottle of ketchup when opened reacted like a bottle of champagne in my daughters face. Chatting to a friend a while later they had the same thing happen. They use glass bottled ketchup and leave them outside in the sun, the fermenting process creates quite a bit of gas inside the bottle, when released it makes a hell of a mess...

Did have a nice lunch at Monty's in Beaulieu village a few months ago, staff couldn't have been more helpful, even when they bought out the wrong order for SWMBO...

... perhaps best to eat on board!!:)
