Beaulieu Boat Jumble

O keep meaning to make a stall. ..
Old engine mounts just need some glue :cool:
fenders stay up for a week,
Old sails, only slightly stretched ideal for some one else's boat
Spare Anchor CQR, copy of course.
Old cooker just needs new burners,
Prop shaft slightly bent and small cracks,
Folding Prop nice dead ring and a pink colour,
Battens assorted sizes, mostly broken(ideal for beating swmbo)
blocks various ceased of course,
Old halyards not to chafed,
Broken nav lights with free super glue,
Pair of oars only lightly split,
Outboard engine that would start yesterday,
Flares out of date,
Square frying pan,
Assorted books,
Anchor chain some light rust
Boat hook only slightly bent,
Box Stainless shackles pins should match,
Half tin anti fouling just needs a shake,
Mooring ropes will soften with use,
Old clutches worked fine when I replaced them,

Should I go on?

Haven't been for 20 yrs but one memory sticks in my mind....at the end, every stallholder had quite a few unsold back issues of Practical Boat Owner, and just for a laugh, we started dumping them all in the same pile. By dusk, the melancholy pyramid was the size of a council house and still growing. Some of us had started drinking our profits and offered up a match, even a cup of petrol, but no such luck, the huge mound of handy tips and projects was too damp to catch, lucky as kids were climbing up it and sliding down. All those broken dreams..
 
I shall have half the office there.....not people I mean bits and bobs...the contents of the basement, oh and the opportunity to buy a PBO subscription (complete with gift and goodie bags)
 
Saved thousands over the years buying good gear at great prices. From a pair of large Simpson Davits for £30 that cost me £50 to have straightened to a nearly new PRM gearbox for £80 that took me right around the UK. If you need gear, this is the place to look.
 
Forecast for Saturday setting up day does not look good with light rain forecast for Sunday.
So could be muddy. (Understatement.)
My father took me in the very early days but I've not been back since. Dragging 40m of chain across the grass and to the car put me off for life although this year I have a complimentary ticket so may go.
 
There's more than a little truth to the rumour that the stallholders get most of the good bargains, hunting around before the show opens to the paying public. Some of them have specialisations, such as the guys who buy up any and all old Seagulls and the Bickerton-style folding bicycles, take 'em home, then take 'em back to Beaulieu a year, sometimes two, later on.

But bargains, yes, if one has the eye and the bargaining knack.... ;)
 
I usually go but its more of a 'day out' now, rather than a bargain fest.
I think the likes of eBay have made car boot / boat sales less attractive. The recent one at Canford Park was dissapointing imho and was smaller than previous years.

If you do go i recommend taking some drinking water as i ended up getting dehydrated a few years ago and had a steaming headache as a result.

Actually cheaper than there regular entrance fees. I am trying to avoid the temptation to go as I know I will come back with useful stuff that I do not need.

Although to be fair I have saved considerable amounts of money over the years at various boat jumbles.

If you have not been is worth doing for the day out..?
 
we're going for the first time. Bit of a schlepp for us, but we are making the effort because entry to the Motor museum is included and we need loads of things. In particular I shall be looking out for anodes, outboard bracket, rope.

I feel your pain as, many years ago, I was conned by my mate into carrying a 25kg anchor plus chain around the show and back to the car which was parked over a mile away! :disgust:

He did pay for my efforts with a good curry and drinks later that evening though. :cool:

They provide a carry service back to your car. It is certainly worth going. I've picked up some real bargains over the years but we won't be demonstrating this year - too much hassle from the H&S police and it makes a very long day.
