Not been to this annual bun fight for many years but having just bought a wreck - oops I mean project - I think we need to go armed with a wad of cash for lots of goodies. Our new boat's equipment was last used by Noah I believe.

Can anyone tell me when it (the BBJ) is this year? or anyone recommend a better (& cheaper entry fee) alternative on the South Coast.

better jumbles

i too went jumbling when i was building my boat. i went to southampton, gosport thorney, ocean village and beaulieu. though in a good year beaulieu has more stalls, you have to queue for ages to park 1/2 mile away & walk up or down a steep hill, also in 2001 it was a sea of mud. all the others allow parking right by the entrance so you can shuttle in and out if you're buying a lot.

If you go to Beaulieu, buy the ticket on the internet in advance - you'll be able to walk right to the front of the mile long queue and go straight in.

If you have ever had stuff stolen off of your boat this is the place to go and buy it back. Take one of those UV lights with you and shine it at all of the electronics....

If you can make Gloucester,
The boat jumble there makes an interesting change to most.

After trawling the 200+ stalls you can relax in interesting surroundings.
The entrance fee for the last two years has also allowed free entrance to a very good inland boating exhibition.

No mud, close secure parking, earlier than beaulieu so the die hard stall holders have more to offer, although thinking about it perhaps more reluctant to barter knowing "the next ones Bealieu".

Still, well worth the drive, stay the weekend, makes the jumble much more enjoyable.
Especially if draging the crew along.
