Beaucette Marina website

It may just be me but the "Live Views from the Marina" cam isn't working. (been checking all day) I also agree publishing the marina tariff would be a plus.

We notified the company that operates the cameras around 2pm. They have many cams around Guernsey and other areas. It's the first time in ages this has happened - let's hope it's fixed before Christmas.

Agreed re the tariffs. I'll see what I can do.

Some more feedback.

Prices - this is essential, I've always been brought up that if I can not see the price or you even have to ask (normally Jewelry Shops etc) then its well out of my price league and I will just go somewhere else. This may be the marinas Business model trying to discourage the 'riff -raff', which I don't think is the case as Reeds 2014 gives the price of 2.25/m

2014 Berthing prices added. I believe that's now everything that's been suggested. Let me know if there's anything else

Nice Website

Hi Piers,

Good work - a really nice website. If you are still heading for the Baltic we shall be sort of swapping places this year. We are heading to South Brittany by way of the Channel Islands. All being well we will be in Guernsey in April as long as the weather allows. If you are likely to be there it would be good to catch up and swap stories.

C**p weather here in Chichester at the moment and it doesn't show signs of improving anytime soon!

Regards to Lin,

Richard.

A very minor point, but on the Marina Entrance page it might be worth clarifying exactly what the tide gauge indicates? I assume depth over the sill, but in some places gauges read rise of tide over datum, or something completely eccentric based on local history and practice.

Bit of a jump in price there I think? Seem to recall paying £25 a night there in '13, now £27.50.
At the high end but still close to the average rate around here I suppose.

A really good point. Thank you. Changed to read "A depth gauge, showing depth of water over the sill, is clearly visible through the entrance."

Thank you - Piers

Hi JSYmartini. Used to be £2.4/m, so it's a £4.2% rise on last year's pricing. It seems to have risen between 3% and 4.5% per annum for a number for years now - but Beaucette still has water hoses!

Martini,

You should of used your transmanche card and only paid £12.50 last year ???

Piers,

Nice site. Beaucette on the to do list in 2014.
I would add that it would also be worth updating the Beaucette info on digimap.gg/Marinas as that is a an invaluable source of info on many marinas around the CI cruising grounds.

Good point. In fact, looking at Reeds and others, they are all so out of date. I'll get to it.

BTW, Lin and I are taking Condor to Jersey for a few days with some friends to celebrate her very special birthday!

I thought it was only in French marinas that my boat shrinks, maybe the same thing happened there too ;)

I don't think I was aware at the time that Beaucette was a Transmanche marina. Neither here nor there for us now anyway as Ports of Jersey are pulling out of the scheme :(

Really? That's interesting. Is there any published news on this? Do you know the real reasons why?

Nope, don't bother. It's just a silly photo of me waving at the chopper while standing next to the Tata pick-up in the yard.

PoJ briefly mentioned it at a St. Helier BOA meeting late last year. It was during a discussion about another matter so it wasn't talked about in any detail.
They claimed it was because it wasn't financially beneficial but of course it wouldn't be and that was never the point.

Apparently they are going to concentrate on expanding on the current reciprocal agreements we have with some local French marinas, Cherbourg, Binic, St.Quay.

Basically it's half price during the week but my argument would be that this type of agreement is more in favour of the French. It's the different cultures - we boat at the weekends, sometimes bunking off work early on a friday (French marinas don't count fri nights as a weekday for the purpose of this agreement funnily). The French of course tend to go for a long break in August so tend to get more weekdays in than us.

I'm going to bring this up again at one of our monthly committee meetings but first I should really come up with a sensible proposal that is going to benefit Jersey boat owners. Nothing necessarily wrong with pulling out of Transmanche IMO but I'd like to push for something more than what we are currently going to be left with. An agreement with SPP or Beaucette in particular would be good as the only thing in place apart from Transmanche is some sort of winter period discount with SPP which is fairly pointless.

Any suggestions are more than welcome!
Apologies for the Fred rift

I did try to ring the Jersey group commercial manager today to ask a few questions but to no avail. Maybe still on holidays. I would imagine when Jersey first signed up to Transmanche the marinas were far apart so very few visitors actually benefitted from it. Now that there are more closer marinas more boats are taking advantage.

I don't think SPP needs to attract Jersey boats in summer months so no incentive to offer discount. Jersey marina had plenty of space apart from the 2 weeks in August.

I don't think there's really any competition between any marinas, they all do well in the summer so there will never be any incentive for the marinas to enter into these agreements.

I see it more as a small gift to their own berth holders, it's just a case of making them feel warm and fuzzy enough to want to do it :)
