Beaucette Marina website

Now that's a challenge to anyone. If it's like that I certainly suggest keeping entry to +/- 1.5 hrs to give ample width and depth over the sill to cope with dipping the stern in the swell.

The web site looks good. We've been to Beaucette Marina a few times and regardless how much water there is the rocks of the entrance always looks close to the surface, even when they are a fair few meters down. Its' a lovely place and only wish we could visit more often. Will have to make an effort next season.

Thanks, need a boat first but I'm working on that. If you could just change it to "Restaurant and Bar" on the site that would do.

Anyway, what's your connection with the Marina Piers? Have you bought it?

Hi Petem. Not bought it (although I would have liked to). Just retired to Guernsey and Lin and I are living on Play d'eau in Beaucette Marina as liveaboards whilst we plan much cruising (we did over 3 months down the west coast of France this year - heavenly) and next year a potential plan is the Baltic and let's see where we go after that. Eventually we'll buy a house here and settle (if that's a real word in my vocabulary...)

The owner also has the most beautiful yacht - the William Tai - http://www.superyachttimes.com/yachts/details/319 - with a set of Kahlenbergs!

Piers
Wow, respect, that is one of Royal Huisman's fine yachts - ex Surama. She was white when launched. Have you been on board? RH is the finest yacht builder on the planet and their workmanship is a joy to see (a good friend owns s/y Gliss and I have been on board and under the skin quite a bit)

Looks very nice on computer and is one of the most entertaining Marina blurbs that I've seen. That's possibly because the history of the place is so interesting.
There's the odd mistake in the prose and the fuel section could do with its opening hours being mentioned.
So 9/10, A+

Thanks whisper. A few mistakes in the prose? How annoying is that! We've proof read and proof read and still there are errors! To save re-proofing the whole site, was there a specific page you can point to?

Re fuel, I'll make it clearer that it's open +/-3hrs HW. If already in the marina and outside these times, a call to Ricky on his mobile will sort matters. Bookings can always be made. However, I'll see how we can sharpen it up to make it more clear.

Hi Piers , looks good - couldn't see easily a berthing layout or price list.

Cheers

Mike

I'm taking with the marina later today re the many suggestions on this thread, which will include the comments you've raised. BTW, the marina map (http://www.beaucettemarina.com/navigation/marina-entrance/) shows the visitor berths (V). Should this be made clearer?

Apart from these berths, many others are used around the marina as they come free when berth holders leave for the summer.

Piers, I really enjoyed reading the marina history. The marina as it is now must be really deep?

Interesting that the 1968 £725 in today's money is a little over £10,500 and £27,000 is worth slightly less than £400k (still cheap)!

Indeed! The bottom of the marina is about 60m below HW, but there's all the army heavy plant down there, some buildings, a fuel barge and one of may spanners. So we tend to say there will always be a minimum of 9m at the berths.

I heard that there are a number of very large eels living in the marina, any ideas if it's true. Always put me off dangling my feet in the water...

I fear you've been listening to old wives' tales! I've only seen lovely lobsters being caught - and which I've eaten.

Hi Piers. We were berthed in there for a bit last year, next to John and Francis the cat. John told us about the eels, said he had seen them. In fact when we left he was setting up to try and catch one.

Thanks so much for all the feedback.

The site has been updated with almost everything suggested. If you find anything that's not been done, or missed out, please let me know.

Best regards, and thanks again. have a great Christmas.

BTW, just hunkering down pending the 43kt gusting 60kt forecast for Monday evening. Welcome to sunny Guernsey!

See you next year.

I had the pleasure of visiting the marina in 2011, such an intriguing and beautiful place. I was informed then that diving is not allowed (for obvious reasons), but sounds like there would be quite a bit to explore.

I had a look there when i bought Clymene. Cracking place... Thought i may miss the lights of a city nearby though, as from the drive up there, thought it was a quiet area. Stayed in St Helier instead...
