Beaucette Marina Restaurant

Cheers Piers,

Looks like I'll be spending most of August there on the big boat. Been dying for a good cup of coffee since last month.

We are in St Peter Port for a couple of weeks so will have to pay a visit, will take the boat up for a couple of nights if I can blindfold Jo on the way in :D

I'd love to visit at some point, but that entrance looks seriously scary.

Is it as bad as it looks?

If those were the concrete walls of a lock you wouldn’t think twice about it. The jagginess of the rock puts people off, but the slot is artificial and cut out square just like a dock basin or a lock.

The entrance isn’t all-tide, but if you’re not sure about depth the marina staff are extremely helpful.

Ans - No, but the entrance is not inline with the approach channel. This is how we handle it on our Fleming 55, Play d’eau.

1) Call Beaucette Marina on Ch80 for clearance to enter. Like many marinas, there’s not room for two to pass.
2) Keep south of the middle of the approach channel.
3) Aim to pass quite close to the last port hand marker....
4) ...and about 100m before the entrance, line up and enter. Simples.

Three points:

a) When there's only 3m of tide over the sill the entrance is already 50’ wide.
b) Although Play d’eau can enter at HW+/-3hrs (she has a 1.52m draft) we limit ourslves to HW+/-2.5hrs to allow the tide to have its initial rush over the sill, first.
c) After the fun of the entrance and the immediate wonderment of being in such a lovely marina, don’t forget to turn to port into Beaucette Marina’s large marina visitor pool to avoid meeting the small breakwater in front of you!

Apart from a 74' Aquastar having used the marina as its home port for many years, a 110' tall master is probably the largest boat to have entered.

Piers, do you know if the restaurant is open for business?

I think we will make our way to Beaucette on Sunday.
