Bearing rate slide rule

I picked this up at a car boot sale. Presumably something to do with aiming torpedoes or guns, but can anyone tell me exactly what it was for and how it was used?

Well thanks for that rapid response. When I have mastered the technique for hitting targets the next step will be to adapt it to avoid them
