Beale Park Show

We cruised up on Saturday and went into the show on Sunday. We go most years as it is nearby and it is one of our favourite spots on the river to moor. It has an English garden fete sort of feel to it and the setting is stunning , but to be honest there is not that much of interest for river boaters. The focus seems to be on traditional boats and crafts and the number of stands of any sort seem to shrink year on year. There was a time when a couple of the main Thames brokers attended with boats to view, but they seem to have given up on it. Last year I overheard someone say they thought there would be more boats to see, after all it is supposed to be a boat show.

I understand there were new organisers this year and I hope they manage to build it back up again. It is worth a visit for an afternoon, but anyone going expecting something similar to the IWA festival which has been there a couple of times will be very disappointed.

Went on Friday with Mrs F and had a really good time. Totally different to my normal boating but the boats on display were varied and the craftsmanship was superb. Went out on the Consuta which was great. The steam boats were fascinating and the many stands were staffed by people who liked to chat. All very pleasant. Glad we went and it wasn't just "down the road" for us!

Well I enjoyed it. I mainly went because the new 12' Smacks Boat I had built during the winter was on display. My video (of Brian, the builder sailing it) gives a bit of an idea of how relaxed it was. BTW I was moored immediately downstream of the bridge into the lake, and my two dogs were playing around the area all weekend, but it was a bit of a shock that on Saturday afternoon the people operating the bridge saw an adder swimming across from the area where they had been playing.

So they're letting in Dogs this year. Previously they had banned them which I always wondered if this was a bad move, ban dogs and you ban a certain section of the population.

Dogs have always been allowed in

Byron, when you and Eileen approached the entrance and the security man told Eileen " you can't bring him in here " are you sure he was refering to the dog :-)
