Only been past th eonce and it was like a mill pond but others say it can be a bit grim, seems to stay very shallow quite a long ways out so maybe go further off shore? Can it be much worse than Selsey Bill?

Have fun, I take it you are going to Sovereign Harbour? We popped in there for the first time on the easter bank holiday and were pleasantly suprised, so much so we are toying with the idea of a move!

Plan your passage to go through at high or low tide stand and you'll be fine. When the tide is running there are unpleasant overfalls especially when it's against the wind. The fact that it is close to neaps will help. In those conditions there is a inshore passage which is suitable for power boats. Alternatively stay 2 miles off - anywhere in between and you could have an unpleasant time. I've stood on Beachy Head and watched a powerboat ploughing through the surf when there were far smoother conditions inshore and further out.

Relieved to read the content of your post. Just seeing the heading I was worried that the new business hadn't worked out and you were planning on jumping.

If you stay inshore watch out for badly marked fishing gear !!!!. It can get confused with Random tide rips running in what seems all directions except where they should according to the chart, having said that it is very localised and as noted in a previous post going east in a planing boat should put a huge grin on your face surely a fitting way to say "chao" To Whitelighter /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

See my post re relocating to Eastbourne. I got it all wrong and hit a 7 wind against tide right in the overfalls. Stay about 1.5 miles off if its snotty. Came through there today and it was like a millpond. I`ll look out for you and if you need a lift to the station etc no probs. Have a good trip
