while showing a mate some photo's of our last spell on loch awe
he asked how we were able to beach the boat without any
damage as the shore is made up of stones and gravel

the answer is simple 10mtrs of 1mtr wide quarry grade conveyor belt,
the key is to tie it to a tree, to stop it drifting away in rough water,

we now know of at least 6 other's using the same method :)
it works well when peeps dont like climbing out of the dingy into
the boat when she's on the mooring.
homebase on the loch looks like this

the mooring is in 10mtrs of water,

Thanks for the reminder. We used to use old tires attached to each other with rope and weighted down with gravel in them on Windermere. Mind you that was before the Fascist fun police moved in and we moved off....

Happy memories

Looks a very pleasant spot Lewi..... what do they say, necessity is the mother of invention.

I haven't got my map of Britain out, how big is the Loch and is there much boating going on?

Re; loch size

loch awe 26mile by an average of 3/4 of a mile wide, there is
little to no boating scene, this is mostly due to two factors,
first there is poor/ little access, single track roads on each side,
second there is almost no facilities, the few villages around the loch
cater for local needs and not much else, at this point i should point
out some of the positive's of the loch;
space to roam

as someone who has had links with the place stretching back over
30 years i would recommend a visit if you enjoy photography,
fishing, or peace and quiet.
