We've made a plan to put Ishtar's engine back in on Saturday. All nicely rebuilt, and hopefully it will see out whatever Louise and I want to do in her.

If everything goes well, we may even get a sail in again this weekend, so if you are out and about, watch yourselves!

I think that might have been a different Ishtar, I'm afraid. Ours is a Cobra 850, and we only gave her that name in June this year, she was Peptimus before that. Strangely enough, she was unused for a long time, but tied up at Cardiff Bay yacht club.

Louise and I did used to visit SySac many years back, though, we used to have joint diving do's with our sub aqua club in Port talbot, but I didn't know any of the sailing people, except a chap called O'Kane. A doctor and maybe the commodore at some point?

Cheers, We may well come and say hello in 2009. Thanks for the offer.

Good luck with reinstalling the engine hope to see you on the water again soon.Your not missing much, now the temp has risen a bit we have the fog to contend with.

Well, you know what it's like, there are always problems to overcome. I'm hopeful we can maybe get out for a sail on Sunday, but the weather looks rough, and I'm sure we'll hit a snag or two, but at least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I don't like fog, actually. I've been at sea in all sorts of conditions, but fog has always scared me. I once surfaced from a dive when a sea fog had rolled in. I could neither see nor hear the boat. I was only 'lost' for a few minutes, but the thought of being run down by other boats really got me thinking.

Anyway, hopefully we'll be sailing again before Christmas. I know of a boat in Cardiff Bay that is full to the gunwhales with booze and doughnuts, so I'll be over there like a shot.......

I am vaguely superstitious about renaming boats, and I have been known to do the ceremony thing with wine, but there was no way I was keeping the name Peptimus. We tried to find out what it meant, to no avail.

I reckon it was the God of Upset Stomachs.

I hope not. You know what it's like though, when you are dealing with boats, especially old boats, there's always something to trip you up. Best you can do is expect it, then you don't get as fed up when it happens.

My usual problem and the one that will extend any job by at least 50% is an invasion of the evil tool pixies. You know the ones who move the tool you just put down and then return it to the original spot after you have spent 10 minutes looking for it.

I'm a bit of a tool fanatic, so when we bought the boat and found just about every tool you could need already on it, including three socket sets, I was a bit flumuxed. I now get myself into a situation where there are tools everywhere, and the socket I want is under two other socket sets, four saws and the screwdriver box.

Of course, I then pack everything neatly back into the tool locker, which only goes together in a precise order before realising that the next thing I want is at the bottom.

That is still better than discovering that you have the drill, but the drill bits are in your shoreside tool box in the garage 100km away.
Then you discover how to abuse various ascending sized screw drivers and files to make the hole in the GRP locker you needed.
Voice of experience? Computer says 'yes'.

If I lose anything, i always check the chocolate locker. Once Louise looks in there, whatever is in her hand at the time gets put down.
