Shall we have another try at holding a BBQ at The Rocks?
May I suggest Saturday 8th September.
High tide on the Deben bar 09:45.
This is neap tides
There should be over 2m of tide until 12:00.
High tide on the Sunday is 10:30
is this on the basis that summer might arrive by then and i can get out and do some boating. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Just seen the forecast for this coming weekend and it looks rather like the boat will be staying firmly in her berth /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Come on weather gods.....get it sorted /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What's summer ????? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif currently sitting under yet another set of stormclouds with the old geyser in the sky making his usual noises and sending bolts of don't go sailing today electric thingies down all over the place , everything is soaked through yet again /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Mind you , the swimming pool hasn't needed a top up for months /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif we just haven't been able to use it /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Looks good - will confer with my usual partner in crime/Duvel - and, of course, the wife in case she has something planned (kids' birthdays Sept 8th & Sept 11th)
Any long range forecast showing better than F2 to 4 variable yet ? , this looks like being the next get together as we still don't have any real summer in sight
thats ythe one for me /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Could you do a sort of "Jim'll Fix It For" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I am peed off with no boating this year /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif.....even the south coast looks tempting /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
I expect that Morgana will try his new technique.

After overdosing on the recent spate of anchor threads, I am going to try the latest technique.... so apologies if it takes us a while, but we will be setting 11 different anchors in a Bahamian Forked Triangular Fore-and Aft Reverse Tandem set up, on 275m of 1" chain with a further 110m of 26.5mm Octoplait with a rubber/nylon combination snubbing system. I believe this is optimum for the Deben conditions.

Or you could use FullCircle's system

Can I anchor using my tri-point keel rudder grounding combo, with enhanced truck tyre concrete ring, with 40 meters of chain nicked from Felixstowe, with a riser obtained from the Royal Navy Tug O War team, and a 5" diameter mooring buoy on 4mm string with "Fark Orf, No Mooring" written in black marker pen.
Err umm oh dear - do I gather that the holding is not too good? Or are as the crappy as me /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The holding is o.k. on the beach side of the channel (Sand mud & rocks) and good on the opposite side (Mud).
The anchoring quotes above were part of a leg pull.
The Deben bar is o.k. as long as there is not a strong wind against tide situation.
I usually wait for 2m rise of tide to go in or out.
The minimum depth I have seen is 3.5m just the land side of the West Knoll Red can buoy.
Don't cut this buoy or the Mid Knoll green conical buoy to close for the best line.
There is a strong flow of tide in and out of the river.
It is especially strong off the Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club.
A good 2 to 3 knots at mid-tide springs.
