BBC 2 tonight 9pm Boaty!

I enjoyed it.

I for one enjoyed it .I thought the scene where they couldnt start the engine and the AA repairman got "Andy" the retired barge skipper out of the back of the van was hillarious.

For me the programme was a harmless bit of fun with some scenery, humour and boat pictures thrown into the mix.

Why are people assumed to be so stupid as to put up with this sort of senseless, aimless, un-enternaining, tosh?
and why would you assume that the Beeb would put a serious boating programme on at peak viewing on 2 days over Xmas/New Year?
It's not great, but it's a lot better than CSI Night or 4 episodes of Grand Designs back to back.
It's TV. It's what you get.
I thought it was harmless and had some interesting points to make. Many, many people wouldn't have known that engines didn't always start on a key, for instance.

You're right, but my view is that most people's lives are not so deprived (of books, music, conversation with/out a pint of beer, quiet thoughts, internet forums or YouTube, doing the dishes, cleaning dogs' teeth, etc) that we should hope to fill time with a stupified grin on our faces watching a has-been comedian (who happens to be a yachtie), a comedian (apparently) and a nobody (somebody enlighten me please) bvgger about rather boringly, doing it for their own wallets and stale egos while providing us with only VERY marginal entertainment. Its no wonder that a lot of the rest of the schedule is filled with endless repeats of often brilliantly-observed social comedies from the 1970s.

Rant over. Off now to build a model railway track with my lad, then probably watch loads of Thomas the Tank Engine videos.

;-)

Happy new year to you all, and yas I must say I was dissapointed at the program, a bit of a farce.
I do like Griff and his antics but felt the big one "Darah" was a bit of a slump.
I have been to Mullingar on numerous occasions and never felt really welcomed apart from all the dogs in the place barking at me, and they werent foru legged greyhounds!!!:)
Would have thought the H&S would have banned Griff and anyone else for that matter from that engine room, what a trecherous place.
Maybe the concluding part on BBC2 at 8pm tonight will be a bit more interesting.
