Hi Guys

I managed to upgrade from a mechanical steering to a Hydraulic Baystar steering system for a Suzuki 115.. I did it on my own following instructions. Maybe you can help me to confirm if i installed it right.
1 : From Maximum Port to maximum Starboard how many full turns should the steering wheel turn approximately. ? ie OB from far left to far right.
2 : From the helm pump im hearing a bit of a clicking sound. Is it normal? Just a bit of light clicking.
3 : To check fluid level as fluid is very transparent. How is the best just to check fluid is at the right level. I assume it is not to drop as it means theres a leak but what is the best way to confirm for peace of mind.

Thanks a lot for your help and views. Appreciate.

With a single helm pump the level should be just below the filler cap. On my boat which has Seastar with a rudder ram that moves ~125 - 150mm it is about 5 turns lock to lock. But I would not worry about how many turns as this may vary according to the ram length and pump displacement. More important it that it does move smoothly lock to lock. I would ignore light clicking - possibly trapped air bubbles popping as the pump turns.

Do check you have no air pockets in any high points formed along the pipe runs. It might take a while for all the air to work its way out.

You will find hydraulic steering takes more turns lock to lock than mechanical, personally I'm not keen on it for this reason
Do you have a choice of available holes in the steering arm from the engine? Some outboards have a choice of holes if yours does then the link bar should fit into the one closest to the pivot point of the engine it may have been in the forward one for the mechanical steering to give a little better leverage but you get better steering with hydraulic if you can get into the rearmost hole
