Hi folks
any bayliner owners had a problem with the ignition start alarm i had the local engeneer do an engine oil change and sort a few other probs out everything seemed ok untill i went to start up a couple of weeks later an alarm sounded and will not stop the oil pressure is fine the water is fine i am told the alarm should sound when the ignition is turned on then go off when the engine is started, (mine has never sounded at all since i have owned it) two years. the engine is a Yanmar diesel 240 HP 290 hours use only the engeneer is on the case but cant find anything wrong. (any ideas}

I have (probably) a couple of the same engines. I think from memory that only oil pressure and engine temperature will cause the alarm to go on as well as other warnings as the OP has said. If no real problem then possibly a faulty sender somewhere. I would be very nervous to run the engine with the arm on so I would get a competent engineer to diagnose cause.

I have just had my Mercruiser engine serviced on my Rinker 250 Fiesta Vee and the boat put back in the water. The same thing has happened to me. My engineer is due to look at it over the weekend and I will let you know what he finds is the problem - assuming he finds the cause of course! I did check the gear oil level and filled it up but this did not stop the alarm albeit in the past it has been the cause. So likely to be faulty sensor.

I went down to the boat yesterday and started the engine. No alarm sound and she started first time so I guess topping up the gear lube cured the problem even though not immediately. Hope you sort your problem out as easily.

thanks

Have a look at the oil resevoir for the drive if fitted, after service (or if you are losing oil) the oil in the leg settles and the low level triggers the alarm.
thanks for the info David 2452 I just gave the drive oil resevoir a sharp tap with the handle of the screwdriver and the alarm ceased the float must have stuck down. cheers
