This seems very heavy dosen't it??

Just put my boat back in the water after CopperCoat-ing the hull, and it weighed 6 ton, the boat has a 300hp 4.2L Merc D-Tronic Diesel with a B3 Duo, the water tank was full (filled up with water to flush the system out only to find the water pump wasnt working) about 30 Gal of diesel, fishing gear and a few tools.

the performance was good, it flew straight onto the plain and reached 35mph in no time, but after looking at other threads about weight, 4 ton seems more realistic, but mine weights 6 ton?

any ideas??

What sort of gauge were you using to weigh the boat with?
I am guessing a strain gauge built into the Travel Lift crane (?).

6 tonnes seems to be way too heavy - I would have thought that 3 tonnes would be more realistic, even 4 tonnes would be getting heavy.

if it is 6 tons, I don't think this guy would have got far towing it with a japanese 4x4 before plod would pull him over.

To remain legal he would have to be 3500kgs incl. trailer although fueled up and some gear on board he could push 4000kgs and probably get away with it, but back to your question, I can't believe a 25' GRP single engined boat could weigh 6000kgs, mines longer, fatter and twin diesel vp's full fuel tank 500litres 160litres water and gross weight is 5540kgs.

Unless someone's put about 2 ton of lead ballast in the bilge, or gold bars, quick go take a look.

4000kgs sounds about right to me too.

I have just emailed the lift manufacturer and questioned them, I should find out in the morning to see how accurate they are.

That does seem far too heavy. It must be wrong. Check for gold or hope that whoever stored 2 tons of high grade columbian doesn't come looking for it!

No way!

Hi Guys,

That Bayliner 2556 shown on the trailer in the photo earlier in this thread was my old boat and that pic was taken the day she was delivered to me a few years ago.....

Now knowing the 2556 model quite well I can tell you that its far nearer to 3ton than anywhere near 6!!

Cheers
Rob

Nice looking boat Rob.....

The guys obviously hadn't connected up the load distribution hitch between the boat trailer and the Nissan, lot of bum sag going on ;)

if it's doing 35 knots with 300hp it can't weigh 6 tonnes........

time to check your scales I think.

I had 200 in my 2556, must be a nice boat with 300.

I also know how hard it is to put a 6cyl engine into that engine bay - did you do that yourself?

The brochure weight for a 2556 is 2581kg. All boats tend to be heavier than the brochure weight with the addition of extras, kit, fuel etc, but 6000kg. I doubt it unless it was carrying 3000 litres of fuel :D

My 275 is classed as 2900kg by the makers.

I suppose you have to add all the junk I have on board plus 300ltrs of diesel (270kg), 130 ltrs of water (130kg) and (possibly) 70 ltrs black water (75kg).

Probably my boat weighs between 3500-3800kg.

6 tonnes seems a bit high for a 2556.

Tom

(looks as though I should have a bit of a clear out this winter - might not have to rely so much on the trim tabs then !!!)

Hi all
spoke to the manufacturers of the boat lift, and they stated it was quite likley that the lift scale could be out by as much as 2 ton with such a small boat, and that at full lift capacity (75ton) it could be out by 5% which works out as much as 3.75 ton, so I am dissmissing the weight, after all, its a boat lifter not a weigh bridge.
