Now that I have had lots of positive comments about PYD delivering my yacht to Falmouth I may join the delivery to do the last bit across Biscay to Falmouth.

When SWMBO discussed this with PYD on my behalf, they asked if I would take part in the watches or not. Of course I would, but she then got thinking and said she may come along too, if she did not have to do night watches! I was quite surprised as she generally prefers day cruising.

She has asked me to post the question as to experiences of weather in the Bay of Biscay late August/Early September.

Thanks as always

The weather is obviously a fickle entity, as is Biscay! September would be the last month I'd plan a passage across without expecting some possible delays (and by autumn they can be for fairly long periods).

If your crew are happy waiting for a weather window that suits you, then you'll be fine. Galicia is a beautiful part of the world, so not a bad place to be delayed!

We left Falmouth Friday 18th August 2006, and arrived Baiona around midnight the following Tuesday. Mainly F4 - F5 all the way, mainly NW'ly.

If I recall correctly, I was prepared to wait a while for a decent weather window, which we got fairly quickly. All in all, a very pleasant trip.

We left Camarinas Sunday 16th August 2009, and arrived St. Marys, (Scilly Isles), Wed 19th August, after a trip with relatively little wind. I watched the weather very carefully during the days before departure, and left when there looked to be little chance of there being any significant wind on the nose.

On the whole, if you use the internet to pick a window, you should get a reasonable trip.

However, if the delivery crew are under time pressure, the skipper may be willing, and wanting, to "go for it" at a time which might suit neither you nor SWMBO.
