Bay of Bis?

I have noticed that before the 1980’s the Bay of Biscay was always pronounced the Bay of Bis-ki and from around the 1980’s onwards the pronunciation changed in popular use to Bis-Kay. Did anyone else notice this change and if so what brought it about and which is correct?

I’ve been sailing since the 60’s and I’ve never heard it pronounced Biski.

It is pronounced that way in “The Cruel Sea” and in The second episode of the original Poldark series.

I’m not sure that the film of ‘The Cruel Sea’ can be cited as an authority. As for Cornish accents. They don’t even claim to be English.
