hi everybody

I have been trying to look into pros and cons about the bavaria 47 ocean, it's not really easy to find any good information on the subject.
One of the reasons might be that theese yacht's only were produced for a short time. I do understand that he quality of the ocean/centercockpit version is better then the average bavaria , not to say anything bad about them.
does anybody have any idea about what a acceptable second hand price would be on a yacht like this, produced in 2000 with standar equipment??
any respond is appreciated.

Hi,

we own bavaria 40 Ocean, delivered to us on March 2003. Sailed more than 4000 miles in last and this year. Just back from Med cruising, six months from Slovenia to Isanbul and back. The boat performed great. The only problem was Fisher Panda generator. It needed a lot od attention. read reapirs.
I have been looking for 47 myself as well. Not many on the market.

Good luck,

Slavko

I have a B42 CC (98) and have been very pleased with it apart from a rotted rudder shaft (aluminium) probably due to Galvanic corrosion. When I bought mine 3 yrs ago the 47cc was advertised by Bavaria but I have never seen one. I was down at Sparkes marina (Opal) many times and the only 47s around always were the aft cockpit. As far as build quality, I think the Ocean series were better fitted out. Certainly other Bav owners looking inside have commented on this, and things like the rigging all seem to be simple but reasonably substantial. As far as sailing, my B42 is about a 7 - 7.5 kt boat. She does have in mast furling and a MaxiRoach battened mailsail which works very well. Seems to point reasonably well and the sails can be easily balanced.

All in all I am well pleased with the purchase. I reckon current value is around 120k for a 42cc 2000 boat that has the usual extras, but for a 47 I think you should add a further 20 - 30k. (if you can find one).

Have you tried talking to Opal Marine? They may be able to give you info on how many were sold...

In my frustration at trying to get spare parts in the past (namely new rudder) I have resorted to getting a German speaking friend to talk directly to Bavaria. (Very useful!!!) You imght try the same tactic.

Good luck
